Musical Instrument Museum (MIM)

Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) offers a shared experience of the history of musical instruments throughout the world. Guests are given wireless headsets to wear throughout the museum. As they approach different displays they hear the instruments being played, either solo or as an ensemble. Photographs and video familiarize guests with the unique sounds of each musical culture, allowing them to share a common experience. Special display areas and exhibitions emphasize interactivity and personal selection. Signage with information about the instruments, along with maps for orientation, allow guests to tour the many displays through each country of the world. The approximately 300-350 displays provide comfortable viewing and an uninterrupted wireless signal.

05/31/12	Loudon Wainwright III Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) Loudon Wainwright III Presented by Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) at Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) May 31, 2012 Inspired by Bob Dylan, Wainwright first came to popular attention in the late 1960s for his witty and incisive songwriting. He soon gained critical acclaim for a series of recordings, starting with his self-titled debut in 1970 and continuing through his 2009 release, Here Come the Choppers.

Using musical instruments and stories, Dr. Jay Cravath presents an artistic tableau of our past: heroes, villains, and the immigrants of our great state. Arizona's rich history is told through illustrations, songs, narratives, and interactive participation. Dr. Cravath is a composer, writer, and scholar in the field of music and American Indian Studies. This program was made possible by the Arizona Humanities Council.
06/02/12	Gillian Welch Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) Gillian Welch Presented by Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) at Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) June 2, 2012 Gillian Welch has influenced and inspired new generations of country and folk singers, songwriters, and musicians. She has earned the unquestioning admiration of the most acclaimed and loved voices of the Americana milieu. With songs recorded by Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris, Welch has sought to portray the American South in song, and her work is also deeply rooted in the world.

However, this was not the case for Geoff Tate. While there was very little from his solo debut that wouldn't fit within the ever-evolving musical scope of Queensr?che, the album was more of a vocal expression of Tate.
06/14/12	Ramsey Lewis Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) Ramsey Lewis Presented by Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) at Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) June 14, 2012 Jazz musician Ramsey Lewis is well known for his gospel-inflected style, which melds well with his classical training. From piano studies as a preschooler to gigging around his native Chicago in his teens and then leading his first trio, Lewis focused significantly on jazz, yet it never replaced his affinity for classical and gospel music.

With rare maturity and finesse, she has taken a rich and eclectic musical culture and made it all her own.

Inspired by the bustling urban life found in her native city of Sao Paulo, her music has a contemporary vibe with influences from alternative pop and downtempo electronic music melded with an acoustic foundation deeply rooted in samba, bossa nova, and MPB.

MIM and the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix present "Dia de los Muertos, A Celebration of Life through Music." This weekend-long celebration will feature a variety of musical and dance entertainment and activities related to this important Latin American tradition. The Latin America gallery and the Tree of Life exhibit will be highlighted by MIM docents as well.
