    Ethington Theatre

    Comment on Facebook

Founded in 1950, Ethington Theatre continues to be a vital facet of the undergraduate experience at Grand Canyon University (GCU). The highly acclaimed production series has been designed to enhance theatrical knowledge through practical application at the collegiate level. Professors Claude Pensis, Paul Bridgeman, and Nola Yergen-Jennings have designed classes that challenge students artistically, academically, and personally. Students are also given ample opportunity to apply what they have learned by involving themselves in the Ethington Theatre Series, which consists of three plays, one musical, and one opera per academic year. Since all students are required to be involved in all aspects of production- from acting to assisting in the box office to constructing the set- students graduate with not only a solid academic base, but also a broad knowledge (and a healthy respect) for the many hours of hard- yet rewarding- work that go into a production.

Aside from equipping students with a solid theatrical foundation, the Ethington Theatre Series is a vital part of social life at Grand Canyon University. GCU students make up a significant (and lively!) percentage of our audience and later may slip over to the Latte Dah for a cup of coffee or to catch Canyon's own improvisational show, Coffee Talk.
