Artist’s Statement of Leonardo Bjork... 10/5/2005

I was born and raised in a whole family of artistic and creative people and it was always just a natural drive and need to create in one form or another.

In my work with digital photographs I like to use a lot of different live models. Often I try to let the image of the model I am working with tell me something or I try to find a storey hidden within it and then bring it out. Though I do sometimes have a theme or idea and then set out to create from it and find a subject that fits the mood or feel that I have for it.

As of right now I use nothing more than a digital camera, simple photo editing software called Photo Elements 2 from Adobe, a small Wacom pen and tablet, a small Dell laptop PC, images of the models that either I have photographed and or ones submitted to me through the internet by models that have agreed to pose for my art. I will often introduce many other images into a piece, using either pictures that I have photographed or that have been given to me and sometimes I will scout the inter net for free stock images and such. I will digitally draw or paint along with altering images. Each art piece consist of many layers, the smaller pieces are usually about 17 to 20 layers deep.

I find digital photographic art is part of me now, it is a great way for me to create and pretty much my whole work shop fits on my lap. This gives me time to spend many hours on my work.

For me my art is a safe way in and out of my head. It is an escape at times but mostly it is a release of thoughts, moods and emotions for me that I other wise cannot express.

Some people have said my art has a dark and sexy side, some have said it was deep in thought, I have heard that it is wide in emotions and I have been told it is very unlimited in concept.

I would have to say my greatest inspirations as to what I create would be my love/hate relationship with life it’s self, the models that I work with and the need to make something that comes from that quiet dark room in my mind.

I would love to one day have celebrities asking me to create a piece with them in it, but my main goal right now is to get my work out there to be seen and hopefully get some good feedback, which I am finding out is not an easy task. Seems like I spend a lot more time trying to show my art than I do making it lately. I know there are a lot of people who like my art work but I have to find the rest of them to start a good following and soon hopefully I will really knock their socks off because I’m just warming up... I will be soon creating to sell either as print or digital.

I would like to mention here that I am also interested in creating art work for music album covers, or as I like to call it, Art on Art.
