"Bringing Lindy Hop Back To The People!"

The Savoy Hop Cats love dance, live music and late nights. The dance floor at any Savoy Hop Cats' event is always alive, and the entire room buzzes with energy. DJ-ANGO (so named in memory of Django Reinhardt, one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time) mixes the best tunes to dance to at all Savoy Hop Cats' events. Just because the dance was born before us, doesn't mean the music is! If you can 'shake that thang to it' chances are he's playing it! Guests attending a Savoy Hop Cats' event can expect to hear music by a wide range of artists including, Benny Goodman, Wynonie Harris, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and The Comets, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, the Swingtips, Christina Aguilera, Weezer, Cage The Elephant, as well as everything in between and beyond! At their special events the Live Bands come to the stage full of energy, with a hoppin' mix of classic songs and original tunes as well!

Savoy Night is the best thing to do in the Valley on Monday nights, and is the perfect place for singles, couples and groups alike! A Savoy Hop Cats' event is about the only place you can go out by yourself and still have a blast! Savoy Night is held every Monday inside the historic Hotel San Carlos which was built in 1928 and hosted such guests as Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Mae West, Cary Grant, and Humphrey Bogart, just to name a few! The Hotel is located at 202 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85004 (Central and Van Buren Light Rail Stop) Come join us every Monday for 'Arizona's Authentic Swing Dancing Experience!'

The Savoy Hop Cats, (Nathaniel and Elizabeth Smalley) offer private and group lessons to the public at the Academy of Ballroom Dance in Phoenix, AZ. One of Phoenix's oldest active dance studios, the Academy of Ballroom Dance is where many of the Valley's seasoned swing dancers learned from Paul Maranto, (the man responsible for bringing lindy hop to Arizona back during the swing revival days of the 1980's & 90's). It would be a challenge to find a swing or lindy hop dancer in the Valley who didn't learn from Paul Maranto or someone he has personally taught over the years. The Savoy Hop Cats still use Paul Maranto as their personal dance coach, attributing their skill and knowledge of the dance to him. Look under our 'Swing Dance Lessons' link for information on group and private lessons taught by the Savoy Hop Cats at the Academy of Ballroom Dance, as well as special swing and lindy hop workshops with out of town instructors!
