The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department operates more than 200 parks throughout the city, including six desert-mountain parks. It hosts many local community events.

The Department is located on the 16th floor of Phoenix City Hall.

    07/08/09- Ongoing	Devonshire Dances Devonshire Senior Center Devonshire Dances Presented by Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department at Devonshire Senior Center July 8, 2009 - Ongoing Get into the swing every Wednesday at Devonshire Senior Center. Fun for singles and couples of the senior population. Listen and dance to the tunes of the '30s, '40s and '50s provided by various local musicians. Light refreshments are served.
    05/02/09- Ongoing	Saturday Morning Bird Hikes The Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area Saturday Morning Bird Hikes Presented by Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department at The Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area May 2, 2009 - Ongoing First Saturday of every month from discover the birds of Rio Salado on this guided walk along the riverbank with Tom Gaskill. Participants will learn basic skills of binocular use, then practice bird watching and identification using field guides. This 1 to 2 mile walk on even surfaces will be taken at a leisurely pace with numerous stops. What to bring: binoculars and bird guides, if you have them. Items provided: handouts, binoculars, field guides, and snack.
    06/01/08- Ongoing	Hike to the Top of Camelback Mountain Camelback Mountain Hike to the Top of Camelback Mountain Presented by Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department at Camelback Mountain June 1, 2008 - Ongoing Camelback Mountain rises like two camel humps out of the outskirts of otherwise flat Phoenix. Standing 2,704 feet above sea level, those from higher elevations may scoff at its categorization of a mountain. But, in this flat, arid environment, it doesn't take much altitude to rise above it at all. Views from the top of this medium-ability hike overlook Phoenix and the rest of the horizon-bending desert.

Learn how archaeologists study clues from ancient and historic sites such as ancient pottery, and create your own designs using interactive magnetic drawing slates. Build a miniature Hohokam village or take a break and enjoy the museum's orientation video in the newly renovated...
