Arizona Opera - Phoenix

Arizona Opera, originally the Tucson Opera Company, was founded in 1971 by a dedicated group of opera enthusiasts. By the 1976-1977 season Arizona Opera was performing complete seasons in both Tucson and Phoenix. In addition to maintaining fully-staffed offices in both cities, Arizona Opera now offers in-school touring productions and numerous outreach events. Arizona Opera currently produces a five opera season. All performances have English translations projected above the stage. This makes the already intensely emotional experience of the story as easy to absorb as the power of the live orchestra with over 60 players. Proud of its dual city presence, Arizona Opera is one of the few companies in the United States to serve multiple cities.

    11/16/12- 11/18/12	Romeo et Juliette Phoenix Symphony Hall Romeo et Juliette Presented by Arizona Opera - Phoenix at Phoenix Symphony Hall November 16-November 18, 2012 The ultimate star-crossed lovers battle family and fate in Shakespeare's ode to love. Set in 14th century Verona, the story takes place amid a feud between the Montagues and the Capulets. All thoughts of feuds vanish, though, when Romeo Montague spots Juliette Capulet at a masked ball. A priest agrees to marry them in the hopes that their union will end the quarrel, but bloodshed trumps their dreams, dooming the lovers to a last kiss in a darkened tomb.

A gypsy burned at the stake. Il Trovatore is a treasure trove of dramatic thrills, set in the medieval kingdom of Aragon in Spain. Amid turmoil and jealousy, Leonora and Manrico, a troubadour, fight for their love against the powerful Count di Luna. Manrico's gypsy mother, bent on vengeance for the death of her own mother, proves to be a pivotal force in deciding who lives and who dies.

In a country estate outside Seville, the valet Figaro plans for his wedding to the maid Susanna. When he discovers that his employer, the philandering Count Almaviva, plans to seduce his bride, Figaro vows to outwit his master. Mistaken identities, lust and infidelity each play a role in determining whether love conquers all - or leaves everyone hanging by a thread.
