Central Community Theatre
Central Arts Players (CAP) opened its doors in 1964 with a production of Brigadoon. The group was formed as a venue for musical theater, showcasing the talents of the world renowned Central United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir. The success of CAP's productions led to its expansion which included members of the community outside the Church and a full spectrum of theater arts offerings.
CAP's current transformation ushers us into its largest undertaking and most exciting step in its evolution - a full production season including workshop opportunities intended to develop and nurture stagecraft and performance skills. Located in the heart of the Phoenix Arts District, they proudly present Central Community Theater, an Arizona 501(c) 3 Nonprofit Corporation and home to Central of Arts Players and many spectacular events to come.-

Even though there were some improvisational elements in the show they were quite witty and clever. I thoroughly enjoyed this version of Godspell. Some of the singing could be fine tuned and a little stronger but all in all a very enjoyable show. The band was excellent. Costumes and props well done. A lot of enthusiasm in the actors. The crucifixion was very heartfelt. Great job! Collapse

Enjoyed so much I attended 4 shows. Sat in different places each time, however, some words were lost. Wished projection/sound/volume could have been better.

Jeana Whitaker, Phoenix Theatre Examiner, PLAY REVIEW EXCERPT "Under the direction of Ken Kahle, the CCT version of "Godspell" is fun and uplifting. What makes this production unique and fun is that the entire ensemble gives a great performance. The production is performed "in the round" which is often difficult to direct, but Mr. Kahle pulls it off with ease and makes the audience an intimate part of the show... There were quite a few fun surprises in this production that I don't want to reveal to the general public. I would rather you go see the production and experience it for yourself...If you have seen "Godspell" before, I urge you to go see this production, as it will be quite different than the "traditional" version you are used to. This production of Auntie Mame tries hard. Half of hte performers are wonderful and funny and theother half look like they grabbed whoever was walking by on the street. Hey this is local community theatre afterall. Mame carries her own with so many costume and hair changes bristling through the play. Those around her give some support. Ito is cute, Vera a drama queen and like Mame, outfits make the girl. Young Patrick so self assured and a real little gentleman. Beau is charming but hard to understand at times. The gang at Peckerwood is so very odd. The belching mother is easy to hear, especially those belches. Sally Cato just oozed that southern charm, but i strained to hear what she was saying. The rest of the kinfolk just meandered. The final party scene was the most fun to watch. Mame in her element surrounded by her friends and her foes. The dilemma suitably framed, well staged, and wrapping up this classic comedy. Like i said, a valiant effort. Collapse

Hats off to CCT for this production of Auntie Mame. For a community theatre to mount a show with such a large cast and so many set changes on what is probably a shoestring budget is so admirable. The walls and staircase of Mame's Beekman Place apartment were the most in need of some style. But the scene changes and transporting you with the use of curtains and props was well done. Kudos to the performers for covering so many different characters. A bejewelled bishop capturing my eye on the corner of the stage while a turban clad guru scratched his ear with his foot showed the zaniness of Mame's friends. Mame, Ito, Norah and young Patrick made such a warm cohesive family. The young lad was adorable. The Shubert scene had everyone in stiches and was well staged for no $. The Peckerwood scene, likewise, to create the impression by having the cast tell the story. Macy's, the law firm, we got the idea without a lot of set. Kudos to this large cast and director. Collapse
