Real Pirates Fall Science Camp
October 11-October 13, 2011
Real Pirates! have invaded our new fall science camp this year at Arizona Science Center! Campers will master the open seas by discovering pirate science! They will investigate how boats stay afloat, and then use this knowledge to create different types of seafaring vessels. A good priate also knows how to read the sky for signs of a storm and how to navigate by the stars and moon, using age-old tools like the sexton and compass.
Modern explorers find sunken treasure and so will our pirate campers. They will discover the exciting world of marine archaeology and the many technologies that have been developed to allow scientists and historians to unlock the clues hidden in these 300-year old discoveries. Finally, they will voyage through our featured exhibition, Real Pirates and discover the perils and privileges of pirate life, exploring more than 200 artifacts recovered from the wreck of the Whydah - the first fully authenticated pirate ship ever to be discovered in U.S. waters.
