THEATRE

Frida Kahlo
September 23-October 8, 2011
In September, Teatro Bravo will present the stage adaptation of the life of Frida Kahlo, complete with puppets, an art gallery, and a deeper exploration of the universal struggles of an artist. Based on the life of the acclaimed Mexican artist, this vivid theatrical experience tells the story of the pain and passion of one of the most original women to have ever lived. From her complex relationship with prominent painter Diego Rivera, to her controversial affair with Leon Trotsky, to her provocative romantic entanglements with women, Frida Kahlo lived a bold and uncompromising life as a political, artistic, and sexual revolutionary. The play will be directed by Israel Jiménez and is funded in part by the CALA Alliance Festival of the Arts. Teatro Bravo is proud to contribute to the alliance's celebration of Latino arts and artists.
