THEATRE

Dreyfus in Rehearsal by Jean-Claude Grumberg
January 26-February 5, 2012
This "serious comedy" is set in the Jewish ghetto of Vilna, Poland, in 1931, where a group of amateur actors are rehearsing a new play about Alfred Dreyfus, the French-Jewish military officer exiled for treason in 1895. They are unaware of their own precarious situation as they delve into the characters involved in the former historical event. Wonderful quirky characters.
"cry a little, laugh a lot?.." New York Times
Garson Kanin (1912-1999) wrote screenplays, novels, memoirs, short stories, essays and plays. The original version of Dreyfus in Rehearsal in 1974 featured Avery Schreiber, Sam Levene, Ruth Gordon (Kanin's wife) and a young Tovah Feldshuh. Kanin's most famous play, Born Yesterday, is currently being revived on Broadway.
