Lisa Sette Gallery is pleased to present two new solo exhibitions, Mayme Kratz: falling leaf, flying vapor and Jo Whaley: Portraits of Transformation. A reception for both artists will be held on Thursday, January 6, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

Mayme Kratz constructs wall works and sculptures that encapsulate the beauty of the desert landscape. Like holding a magnifying glass upon its organic details, the artist suspends natural objects such as seedpods, cacti, flowers and insect wings within the translucent surface of a cast resin shell, holding their presence and beauty. Kratz's subtle palate and delicate fusing of natural elements speaks of tactile experience, cyclical growth, and the formation of poetic memory.

The photographs by Jo Whaley depict butterflies paired with portraits of anonymous individuals whose souls have long ago departed. In fact, the tintypes and glass plates that carry their visage show signs of decay, so that even the portraits of these individuals are disappearing with the passage of time. The result is the melancholy beauty of entropy mixed with the gemlike exquisiteness of the butterflies. Nature, art and science are entwined in her exhibition titled Portraits of Transformation.
