Adults Night Out: The Aztecs, the Mayas and the End of the World

There is much more to Maya and Aztec civilizations than ancient predictions of doom, destruction and the end of the world (predicted for 2012)! This lecture will focus on recent archaeological excavations at Aztec and Maya sites, describing the latest discoveries, from decipherment of ancient writing systems to the identification of kings and queens and their deeds to the discovery of the lives of the common people. Dr. Smith will also discuss the role of calendars and predictions of the end of the world in Aztec and Maya civilizations.
