Words for Music: Johnny Mercer
May 12-May 22, 2011
The fourth edition of the ongoing series celebrating lyricists and composers is dedicated to the work of America's Poet Laureate, Johnny Mercer. One of the most versatile of all American songwriters, Mercer was also the creator of Capitol Records and numerous shows. According to his mood or circumstance, he was a lyricist, a composer, a singer, an actor, a producer and a businessman. But first and foremost he was a lyricist: One of the best this country has ever produced. Come and enjoy selections from one of the great contributors to the American Songbook!
